Shimakage is a trip through Shiraishi's memory. This book gathers photographs of Japan smaller islands and coastal areas such as Sakushima, Shingu and Kihoku Mie. Rendered on gelatin print, the author applied an old-fashioned technique to prints called rag-wiping, intensifying dark tones. The images treated in this way recalls old dark memories from the past.
