This book is the new edition of A BIRD BLAST #130, originally published by Taka Ishii Gallery in 2006.

"The BLAST series, which captures the moment of blasting in a limestone quarry, was photographed remotely in hazardous sites inaccessible to humans.
It stands as one of Naoya Hatakeyama’s most celebrated bodies of work, acclaimed worldwide for its profound depiction of destruction and creation.

Among the many blasts he photographed, one roll of developed film revealed the figure of a bird dancing through the air. In that instant when the rock face collapses with a deafening roar and fragments of stone and dust are hurled outward by the blast, the image of the bird fluttering through the midst of destruction seems to embody both the fleeting and the eternal.

Within those few seconds, a moment of silence - separated from the surrounding thunder - remains indelibly engraved within the photograph" - From publisher's website
