"Photographer Shintaro Sato captures the historical layers and human activities that accumulate in cities through his photographs, focusing on the "genius loci" (spirit of the earth), the unique atmosphere of a place.

This book collects eight series spanning Sato's entire career, from 1990 to his latest work in 2025.

The book includes not only representative works such as "Hijokaidan Tokyo" (2009, winner of the Photographic Society of Japan Newcomer Award), which captures Tokyo at dusk from a perspective somewhere between the sky and the street, and "Tokyo | Sky Tree" (2012, winner of the Hayashi Tadahiko Award), which features multiple observations of the construction of Tokyo Skytree, but also unpublished works such as "Flat City" (1990), created while he was a vocational school student, and "Streetscapes" (1999-2002), which capture the daytime cityscape in strong direct light, as well as his latest work, "Boundaries" (2019-), which marks the first time he has published a work." - From publisher's website
