In my room, Revisited | Ryudai Takano | Yamada Books Publishing 2026
This book is brand new!
"This work is a reprint of the photobook published by Sokyusha in 2005. It's been over 20 years already. At that time, I invited people I admired to my home and photographed them. After a time akin to a non-physical caress, various figures were left on the film. Looking back now, it almost seems as if they were traces left by the waves of the atmosphere of the time we spent together in a small room.
However, what I was thinking about at that time wasn't expressing intimacy with the other person. It was about representing the other person as an unknown entity, and expressing that unknownness. Therefore, I was extremely wary of introducing emotion into the frame. The completed "In My Room" series was entirely shot with a 4x5 format camera, which is difficult to shoot handheld.
On the other hand, I was also simultaneously shooting with a more convenient 6x6 format camera. This was an experiment to explore other possibilities. Initially, I had no intention of publishing it, but eventually I began to think that it might be alright to reveal "other possibilities," and in 2006 I published it as a handmade book using Xerox copies.
Now that I've been able to publish both together, I feel a sense of relief, like I've finally completed a long-neglected task." - Ryudai Takano
