"Kiyoji Otsuji (1923-2001) is known as an educator who nurtured many young artists, including Yutaka Takanashi, Shigeo Gocho, and Naoya Hatakeyama, as well as for his interactions with contemporary artists such as Jikken Kobo and Gutai Art Association, and for his prolific writing. Although he attracted attention early on for his experimental works based on his deep understanding of 20th century art such as Surrealism, he rarely actively compiled his own work after that.
